We need to make a plan for spammers. One option would be to notify Wikia and ask them to sort it out, another would be to close the Wiki for a few days to hope they get bored of us. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks
Most of them are banned and as far as I know the damage is prepared. We could put the most important/not subject to change pages under protection, but that isn't a great idea because they don't get updated.
One spammer got banned across all wikis, letting Wikia know tends to get it to work. Usually there isn't much spam and its easy to delete, today was bad but it got fixed fairly quickly.
WHAM tools are awesome, I only used them twice but they got it done. The problem is there were at least 5 different accounts doing edits which made it kind of tedious.
I'm not sure of how to ban people, though I wish I did... I'm getting the same hate speechs spamming the bloody hell out of my wall, and seeing as others have been getting the same thing is a shame. It's also sickeningly inappropriate... despite DoA being played by many teenagers and adults, there's no denying that it's "designated" for kids, and they, above all others, do not need to hear/see such things.
And Lurk (do you mind if I call you that?), I really think we need to change the wiki settings to where only members can make posts. It won't completely eliminate the occasional spam, but it would help.
I wasn't sure who to contact, but you seemed to be the head admin-in-charge, based on edits and info. I used to play DoA back in 2011, left, and have recently returned. However, due to my schedule, I started playing the mobile version, called Dragons of Atlantis: Heirs of the Dragon.
This version is the same in many ways of the design, but different in many other ways (such as number and type of troops in camps and wilds, the concept of a campaign to get armor, instead of anthro camps, etc), but the layout is nearly identical. It is a much younger game then the PC version. In most realms, the Water Dragon has not even been released yet.
I have worked with wiki's in the past, but never this one. I was wondering what you (and the other admins?) thought about adding a page for information based upon the mobile version of this game? I have no intention of editing any other page on this wiki, due to not actually playing the main PC version. I wished to ask permission before adding an Heirs to the Dragon page, due to it being a different version of the game then this wiki technically supports.
My realm is young, and I have only been back for 3 weeks. However, I have many stronger players who are willing to feed me the knowledge of camps and wilds which I cannot yet gather myself for the sake of a wiki page for us. If you do not think this is a good idea, let me know, and I will seek out other options for us! Thank you!
Hey there, Lurk (if you don't mind me calling you that)! (: I've a quick question if you don't mind:
If you use an uncharted warp for your city, does it still warp to a swamp of the same level? I'm wondering since I would assume if it dropped you to a lower level, you'd thus have to lose some territories...
Yesterday I made an edit on the homepage - this morning when I came back to look at the wiki I noticed it had been reverted to its old state. So I looked to see who'd edited it. HailFire had. So I sent him a message (which you can read on his wall if you like) asking him why he'd done that. He replyed saying he'd done an edit like the one I'd done in the past I you'd didn't like, and that we should ask you before we edit things. Seeing as I've not heard that directly from you I have re-reverted the edit to the one I did originally and I'm asking you if its OK now. >Sigh< Well that's that then!
Also; I've slightly changed the top navigation: I think it makes it better, but if you don't thats fine. And I've finished the Beginners Information category, inless you can think of anything else you'd like to add to it.
Don't remove the DoA history thing, I made a thingy for your wiki updates if you want them on there somewhere. The history is kinda nice for people that don't play regularly to see what has changed... too bad people don't keep it up to date. And for admin notes, make a forum post and highlight it if you would like to make announcements. It sends a message to all people with an account similar to how it does with the community announcements.
I thought you were the one I told not to remove things from the homepage, but it may have been him IDK. Basically don't make drastic changes to the homepage unless it is fairly obvious what has been changed... people get panties in a bunch over things around here. Remove history that is older than 6 months or so, but don't completely remove the entire section all of a sudden. Top nav looks good to me! Good job!
Checked out the message, seems like you guys have resolved, it so it is settled? You did the right thing by messaging him, good job on communication. BTW I'm a girl ;)
Summary: Don't make huge changes. I think he was talking about when he changed the theme to this 1 picture a few days ago... you can go look at it on the theme history if you want. IDC as long as the wiki is improved in some way without taking away what was already there if that makes sense. You guys don't have to have my permission for everything (except for home page big changes, if you had seen it at past times you would understand -_-). Actually I suggest you guys go look at the history of some pages like Camps & home page to see where this wiki has come from :) pretty surprising on some pages.
Also, I have updated the information in the New City Guide page, and updated it (I was gonna add a new page about "What To Build First" but I realised it would baisically just be saying what was in there and I thought it would be easier to update it rather than start afresh) - I haven't completely finished yet - but if you can think of anything else to go on there let me know!
I don't understand the 1st thing, you want to add headers? Sure, there's a headers template you can copy it from home page... if this is not what you meant, IDK lol.
As long as the newbie guides are useful (and not farmville-ish) I don't care what you do to them. The Beginner's Guide and the sequence on the science/research/whatever page is the only ones I created. Others were created and abandoned by others ;)
Hello, Lurkers. I have a very important question. Is there a way for me to be given more power on the site? I`ve been an admin for nearly 2 years, since December 2012. I`ve helped out, I can post new info, I can be on nearly 10 hours a day monday through friday, and i can get on on sundays. Is there a way for you to let me be able to demote/premote people to admin? THX.
You have definitely been helpful to this wiki. But I'm not adding anyone to B-crat as long as I am active. Being a higher rank than Admin is not really any special privilage, its only neccessary to keep admins active. And there's no need because you can always ask me to do it if someone seems like a good admin. B-crat can make other B-crats which would be an awesome mess to fix if they wanted to do something terrible to this wiki. Sorry, but no.
And don't change the main theme. We only change it every year or so and it seems to create a great wad in everyone's panties each time.
To keep it from becoming what it was when I adopted it. The original b-crat didn't make any admins (not even Dredd or Kenny) and the small group of people that took care of the wiki had a hard time with all the spammers and vandals. So I work on here as a hobby and check every few days.
