In order to attack, your marches need Generals. You may appoint generals in your Officer's Quarters. Each General has a salary, which is taken out of your tax income. 0% tax will result in a negative production for gold. Levelling up your Officer's Quarter will allow players to appoint additional Generals.

As Generals command troops in battle, they will receive stars based on their performance. Each time a general obtains victory commanding a march, he will gain experience. After a certain number of victories, generals will begin to acquire stars. The more stars your general has, the higher boosts your troops will receive from marching with that general.

Tip: The quickest way to reach 5 stars with your Generals is to attack the nearest low level wilderness repeatedly. Experience gained by generals is not determined by how many enemies are defeated nor what level camp/wilderness you attack, so can consistently wave an empty wilderness to get all your generals to a 5 star ranking

To appoint new Generals, click on your Officer's Quarters in your city and select the option "appoint general" on the pop up. Any available general slots will show a general and number. General salaries are not deducted from your gold income until they are appointed.

An Officers' Quarters is a city Building.
